Living in Dublin as a Coeliac: Top Gluten Free Spots

Studying in the heart of Dublin has its perks, and the gluten free food options are definitely among them. When I first started at Trinity, the ever daunting question of ‘where will we all go for lunch’ was always a bit stressful – I would have loved a run down on cafes and restaurants that I could rely on.

So, after lots of questions, research, trial and error I have accumulated quite the list. Over the years, I’ve noticed that I can often walk into a restaurant without even checking the menu first and still come away with a nice coeliac friendly meal.

Whether you’re a Trinity student or just in Dublin for the weekend, these are my go to gluten free and coeliac friendly spots. I hope this helps!

(As you’ll notice….I really love fish and chips.)

Comfort Food & Casual Eats

Tang

As one of the most popular lunch spots in Dublin, it’s no surprise that Tang is at the top of my list for a delicious brunch or lunch. Overall their food is incredible, starting off with their pancakes – these are a must.  Then onto their bowls, these are in my opinion the best lunch option in Dublin. Super affordable, healthy, suits everyone and most importantly gluten free.

Sprout

Sprout is perfect if you want something quick, healthy, and safe. They list all their allergens clearly across the menu and they truly take extra precautions when building your bowl. I always go for the tofu satay – such a reliable delicious lunch!

Fish & Chips Heaven (GF Edition)

If you’re like me and really miss a proper fish and chips, Dublin has you covered.

Bar Rua – A pub classic with lovely gluten free fish and chips.

Beshoffs – The takeaway that does gluten-free fish and chips really well. Just make sure to check the specific location beforehand, as not every branch offers coeliac friendly options.

International Food

Mak

Mak Chinese offers a dedicated coeliac menu, it’s delicious and a personal favorite!

Saba

Saba (Drumcondra) has one of the best coeliac menus I’ve come across in Dublin. The staff are knowledgeable, and the food is amazing. This is also a great place to order as a takeaway.

Ramen Bar

Nothing beats a cosy bowl of ramen! Make sure to ask the staff, but the ramen here can be made gluten free. I have enjoyed endless bowls of delicious ramen here!

Boojum bowls are a solid gluten-free option when you want something quick, filling, cheap and healthy. Just make sure to tell the staff your coeliac and they will help you create your bowl.

Nóbo Treat House

This place is a dream. There are so many sweet treats to choose from. It’s perfect for a coffee date on the weekend!

Their macarons are naturally gluten-free! Always good to know when you want something fancy and safe.

I love this place for a cosy lunch. Their gluten-free bread is incredible, especially with soup.
