Somehow it’s already that time of year again. Yes, I’m referring to exam season, but the good news is we’re nearly there, and then it’s summer!
Here are a few tips to help you manage and get through this season, and potentially enjoy it (if that’s possible).
Change Your Study Environment
Changing up your space can add a bit of excitement to the ‘Groundhog Dayness’ of study days. It doesn’t need to be anything major; for me personally, one or two days of the week spent in a coffee shop can make a world of difference. Below are a few of my favourites!

Best Cafes to Study in Off-Campus
Shoe Lane, Tara Street
A 5 minute walk from campus, this cafe serves not only delicious coffee but it also has a upstairs. As it’s slightly hidden, it tends to be quiet, there’s also pugs and a long wooden table making it the perfect study spot for a couple of hours.

Little Collins, Lombard Street
This little gem, is a 5 minutes walk from campus, more specifically pearse station. Similarly to shoe lane, they offer a gorgeous upstairs long wooden table to work on. They serve lovely coffee and offer the choice of a drop of CBD in your coffee, ideal for when exam anxiety creeps in. They also stay open until 7pm, perfect for when you’re stuck into some work!

Cafe Nero, Dawson Street
This place is a well know study spot and third upon this selection to offer a long wooden tables to work on! Located just a 5 minute walk from the arts block entrance, fit with plugs, and coffee making it a nice choice for a study day or for a few hours when the campus library isn’t working.
Eat Well and Move your Body
We all know it’s important to eat well and move your body, but during exam season this becomes that bit more apparent. Fuelling up properly for a day of study can make your break your energy levels.
Stepping away from desk to eat is also a major necessity! If you’ve prepared lunch, and the weather permits, make sure to pop out to the critch pitch, grab a bench, and enjoy your lunch in the fresh air!
If you’re looking to buy your lunch, Tang, Carluccio’s or Boojum are my favourite options that come to mind, plus the walk it good for the mind.
Sometimes, twenty minutes of fresh air walking around campus or chatting with a friend is all you need. You’ll come back with twice the energy and motivation, I promise!

Sleep (Non-Negotiable)
We all this one to be true. A solid nights sleep arguably has the biggest effect on a solid study day and exam day performance. This is not one to brush over. Stick to 7-9 hours, get a good routine in place, and keep at it. You’ll reap the rewards.
Chat
It’s an intense time with lots of pressure. Don’t underestimate the power of a quick chat break or a long debrief. Everyone is in a similar boat so try not to isolate yourself. Trinity’s free Student Counselling Service is also always there!
One last thing
If you need a total change of pace, head to the Global Room in the Watts Building. It’s a fantastic, inclusive space specifically designed for international and domestic students to decompress. They often have snacks, friendly staff, and a much more relaxed vibe than the formal libraries.
I hope these tips can help someone and wishing you all the best of luck! 🍀
