5 study spots close to campus

Have you ever found yourself wandering around after a lecture, laptop heavy on your shoulder, in search of somewhere (anywhere) new to study? I’ve been there :’).

If you need a break from the usual spots, here are five of my favorites, ranked by how far you’ll have to walk from Trinity College Dublin + bonus.

Kaph

31 Drury St, Dublin 2

Kaph is a great choice if you like to spend your study time with some good coffee! It is right in the center of Dublin, and the best part about it is that you can go down and have a drink and then go up where there are tables set up for people to sit and study. It is a great place to study alone, especially if you are trying to get through some readings or work on an assignment. The only thing to keep in mind is that, like all cafes, it is best not to bring your laptop on Saturdays and Sundays.

Book Upstairs

17 D’Olier Street, Dublin 2

If you like the idea of studying among books, then Books Upstairs is hard to beat. The idea is simple and brilliant: you can study quietly, and if you need a break, you’re already in a bookstore, so you can browse around, grab something, and clear your head before getting back to work. It’s the perfect place to go on days when you need calm energy and don’t want to be distracted.

Dubray Books

Grafton Street

Dubray has a similar atmosphere to Books Upstairs, and it’s a great change of environment! Head to the third floor, where you’ll find a small café plus tables and chairs that make it easy to get comfortable. It is a great place to go if you are looking for something quiet-ish, central, and organized enough so that you can focus without feeling like you are in a rut.

Dublin City Library & Archive

Pearse Street

Sometimes the best place to study may not be a café at all but a proper library. Dublin City Library & Archive is an excellent alternative if you find yourself in a situation where you want a quieter atmosphere, fewer distractions, and a greater presence of the “I’m here to work” vibe. It’s also a huge advantage that it’s clean, well-organized, and never too crowded, making it easier to get settled in and stay on track. This is an excellent choice if you’re writing, editing, or working on anything that requires intense focus!

Seating area in Kevin Street Library

Kevin Street Lower

This is the furthest on the list, but it is worth it (especially when the weather is good). The walk is actually quite nice, and once you get there, the reward is enormous because the ambiance is so quiet and comfortable, and it feels like a place that is actually designed for proper study. On top of that, the staff are so friendly and accommodating, which makes the whole experience feel welcoming, especially if it is your first time there or you need assistance with something.

Bonus! Hidden Downstairs Favorites

If you want a ‘secret’ spot that’s easy to access, try these:

  • Costa on Dawson Street: Most people grab their coffee and leave, missing the amazing downstairs area.
  • Starbucks on Ha’penny Bridge: Head to the downstairs seating area. You’ll mostly find other students there, making it a reliable, laptop-friendly spot.

No matter where you end up, sometimes staying motivated is as simple as finding a new chair and a fresh cup of coffee.
