Where are the zen zones to study and relax in Trinity?

Between assignments, society involvements and the general mania of college life, it’s important to take time to unwind. Luckily for Trinity students, spaces on campus to relax are abundant. Whether it be a picnic, watching an episode of your favourite TV show or simply a chat with a friend, we’ve got you covered!

The Rose Garden

Perhaps the most popular outdoor spot in Trinity, the Rose Garden (between the Museum Building and Houses 38-40) is a classic spot for sitting back and enjoying the world around us. Often students hideaway here, buried in books or studying. The rose garden further acts as a popular location for meditators, with regular mindfulness sessions hosted by DU Meditation. However, if neither reading nor meditating appeals, you can simply sit on the bench and enjoy the beautiful bird sounds and botanical beauty!

Global Room

The Global Room (on the first floor of the Watts Building) is maybe the snazziest place to chill out on campus. A lunch hour takes place everyday between 1pm and 2pm. If that doesn’t appeal to you, then fear not – that’s only the start of the fun! The Global Room has a host of wonderful board games! From Jenga to Monopoly, you are spoilt for choice! The Global Room also has headphones, so you can just sit back and enjoy one of the many shows featured on our screen.

Student Spaces – Arts Block/Hamilton

Upstairs in the Hamilton and in Room 4017 of the Art’s Block, student spaces have been developed for socialising and relaxing. If you need to get some work done or simply check out what’s happening on Instagram, the areas are equipped with sockets so you can plug in your phone or laptop. These are great areas for lunch and relaxing. But get there quick during lunch hours as they fill up fast!

Áras an Phiarsaigh

Hidden beside the Graduate Memorial Building, Áras an Phiarsaigh is a small and quieter part of campus. If braving the crowds of the Buttery at lunch seems an improbable task, this may be just the place for you. The smaller café supplies the same soup, scones and sandwiches that can be found in the Buttery, just without the crowds! The occasional chilly draught aside, this building is a great option for lunch or grabbing a quick coffee.

The SU Kitchen

Located in House 6, the Student Union Kitchen is the perfect place for a study break, where you can eat your lunch and browse the past Trinity Ball Acts. The room is fitted with a self service kitchen too, so you are free to heat up your lunch. There are charging stations as well, if you are out of battery or have forgotten your charger.

GSU Common Room

The Graduate Student Union room in House 6 is equipped with a kitchen area, and stocked with tea and coffee, as well as a ‘take a book, leave a book’ library. All registered postgrads have access to this space via student card swipe at both the entrance to House 6 and the entrance to the Common Room.
